Metal cable ties are specialty cable ties, so they need to be properly installed so that they can perform to their standard. When installing metal and stainless steel ties, there are two options.

A quick pull on these ties will cause them to zip shut tightly around the cables, providing a firm hold. For easy removal or adjustment, the ties can be opened by pushing the ratchet mechanism upward with a flathead screwdriver. Some metal ties are made with a metal powder that enables the cables to be cut using standard cutters, offering convenience and flexibility. However, others incorporate a thin wire that requires the use of specialized cutters designed to handle metal, ensuring a clean and efficient cut. This distinction is important when choosing the right tools for the job.

In addition, metal ties and certain nylon-coated ties often feature a ball-bearing head, a design that offers both flexibility and security. The cable can pass easily through the head, but when tension is applied, the ball-bearing mechanism wedges itself against the cable, preventing the tie from loosening or slipping. For trimming any excess cable sticking out of the tie, tin snips are commonly used. However, using a strap or cable cutter results in a cleaner, more precise cut, improving the overall appearance and effectiveness of the installation.
