Installing Metal Cables Ties
Installing Metal Cables Ties
Metal cable ties are specialty cable ties, so they need to be properly installed so that they can perform to their standard. When installing metal and stainless steel ties, there are two options.
1. Metal Cable Tie Installation without Specialty Tools
Metal-impregnated cable ties are designed for secure and reliable cable management in various applications. A quick pull on these ties will cause them to zip shut tightly around the cables, providing a firm hold. For easy removal or adjustment, the ties can be opened by pushing the ratchet mechanism upward with a flathead screwdriver. This feature allows for quick reusability, making these ties ideal for dynamic environments where frequent adjustments may be needed.
Some metal ties are made with a metal powder that enables the cables to be cut using standard cutters, offering convenience and flexibility. However, others incorporate a thin wire that requires the use of specialized cutters designed to handle metal, ensuring a clean and efficient cut. This distinction is important when choosing the right tools for the job.
In addition, metal ties and certain nylon-coated ties often feature a ball-bearing head, a design that offers both flexibility and security. The cable can pass easily through the head, but when tension is applied, the ball-bearing mechanism wedges itself against the cable, preventing the tie from loosening or slipping. For trimming any excess cable sticking out of the tie, tin snips are commonly used. However, using a strap or cable cutter results in a cleaner, more precise cut, improving the overall appearance and effectiveness of the installation. These features ensure a tight, secure fit and a professional finish for any cable management task.
2. Cable Tie Installation with Specialty Tools
A cable tie installation tool is an essential tool designed to streamline the process of securing cables, allowing users to tighten and cut the tie in one smooth motion. While power tools are commonly used in industrial and commercial settings due to their speed and efficiency, manual installation tools are a practical and affordable alternative for home installers or smaller-scale applications. These tools offer precise control and ensure that cable ties are securely fastened.
The installation process begins by pushing the cable tie strap through the head of the tie. Once the strap is in place, it is fed into the installation tool, with the end of the tool positioned against the head of the tie. As the user squeezes the trigger, the tool activates, pulling the strap through the device and tightening it around the cables or wires. This action helps create a strong and reliable hold on the components being secured.
As the tie is tightened, the tool automatically detects when the correct tension is achieved. Once this optimal tension is reached, the tool forces a blade into the cable tie, cutting it cleanly at the desired length. This process ensures that the installation is both efficient and professional, with minimal risk of damage to the cables or the tool. The result is a neat, secure installation that holds cables in place, preventing them from becoming loose or tangled over time.
